The idea of the project stems from the desire to combine a contemporary trend in the field of hotel industry, such as the spread of design-hotels, with the enhancement of a material that identifies the culture and history of Carrara, marble.

The ground floor is designed as a place to welcome guests but not only: the hotel lobby is a hybrid space, which the city regains. In the basement the staff rooms and the kitchen remain unchanged, while the space previously used as a conference room becomes a luxury spa totally isolated from the staff service area. The terrace is refurbished and the space optimized.

The design request of a concept based on the enhancement of marble and the characteristic elements of the city of Carrara and its history has been interpreted both through mood-boards that take into consideration the important landscape and natural components that characterize the city, and through the design of an element that expresses the local culture of the material and its processing.

The idea of a very thin ribbon, decorated through the technique of inlay or mosaic, which from a wallpaper becomes a bench and a seat, expresses the expressive potential of marble, its beauty, its flexibility of use, but also the capacity of Italian craftsmen to work it, and the taste for art and decoration.
