In the heart of the Tigullio coast, just a few steps from the sea and overlooking the quiet beauty of the Bay of Silence, the project for the Hotel Miramare in Sestri Levante focuses on a small but meaningful transformation: the creation of a patio within the entrance courtyard of the hotel.

The intervention connects two existing building volumes and reorganizes the access system to the rooms and the common areas of the hotel. More than a simple passage space, the patio becomes a transitional environment — a place that mediates between the intimacy of the courtyard and the vibrant life of the restaurant and terrace overlooking the bay.

A key requirement of the project was to ensure privacy for the neighboring building, whose windows face the courtyard and the hotel restaurant. The architectural response takes the form of a light and almost immaterial structure: a suspended green gallery made entirely of jasmine plants.

Thin steel cables stretch between the restaurant veranda and the adjacent building, creating a delicate framework that supports the vegetation. Over time, the jasmine grows into a soft canopy, defining a shaded “room” in the open air. The space becomes a living threshold — not only a passage but also a place to pause, sit, and enjoy a moment of quiet.

Along the courtyard wall, a continuous planter basin integrates seating elements made of simple wooden slats, offering informal places to rest and wait. The materials remain intentionally understated, privileging natural textures and a tactile relationship with the space.

Lighting is discreet and carefully integrated within the planters. At night, the soft illumination filters through the foliage, transforming the patio into a calm and atmospheric environment — a suspended garden that gently accompanies guests from the entrance toward the life of the hotel.
