The Domus of Frescoes is located near the summit of the South-East Foro of Luni. The design of the domus is defined by walls and emergencies that not exceed one meter in height.
There are therefore no vertical elements that indicate the presence of the artefact to be covered. Actually the site is occupied by a temporary cover made by diverse technologies and built at different times; predominantly is innocenti tubes assembled fot the vertical parts and corrugated sheets juxtaposed to those horizontal.
The plan of the excavations is raised to allow visitors and archaeologists to be able to physically enter into the stratification of the historic ground: more than a cover, the project proposes a new soil that is detached physically from the ground to find a new interstitial space to live. The idea is to look for a strong continuity with the surrounding rural landscape, made of textures and rectilinear geometries, that, viewed from above, dialogues with the ancient Roman urban grid and boundaries of agricultural property. The new horizontal plan may be used as a roof terrace to read structure of the ancient city and, at the same time, observe the landscape of the Apuan Alps that surround the plain of Luni.
From the campaign, by contrast, the vision is perfectly free, without interruptions due structural elements that are limited to a minimum; only the shadow cast and the light filtered through the different materials that make up the hedge, define the perimeter of the Domus.
